2014 Open Championship Fantasy Golf Picks

2014 British Open ChampionshipWhether you call it The Open, The British Open or The Open Championship, the third major of the PGA Tour season is always one of the biggest events of the year.

This year it is being played at Royal Liverpool — or Hoylake, as it is also known as, and will again feature unpredictable weather, pothole bunkers and a flat links style golf course that suits some players and stymies others.

Again DraftKings has stepped up with a $300,000 Royal Golf Championship.

We are partners with DraftKings and receive compensation for new players joining through our links. This helps us to provide quality content to our followers.

Below are fantasy golf picks that you should consider when making your teams either at one of the top fantasy golf sites or in your regular fantasy golf league.

Martin KaymerMartin Kaymer – Kaymer was basically declared the favorite for The Open after his dominance of the US Open. Having also beaten a top field at The Players Championship, Kaymer’s game looks like’s its heading back to where it was in 2011 when he was ranked #1 in the world. His game is popping right now, so he is definitely a guy to try to fit into your fantasy golf lineup.

Adam ScottAdam Scott – Finished in 3rd last year, 2nd the year before and had an 8th place finish in 2006 at Hoylake. Scott is ranked #1 in the world right now and he is playing like he can win every tourney he enters. He will be one of the top priced golfers at DraftKings, but he is worthy of the price.

Rory McIlroyRory McIloy – Rory needs to do one thing to win the British Open…play 4 good rounds. McIlroy has had a number of tournaments with 3 good rounds, but finds of way of messing up one of the other 4. Rory’s game is pretty solid right now and he has only missed one cut at The Open before (2013), so as a fantasy golf pick, he should pay solid dividends for your team.

Jason DayJason Day – Any doubts of his thumb being fully healed were wiped away with a 4th place finish at the US Open. Day has a way of having top finishes at Majors (although his British Open results are a bit average). Take Day for your team and enjoy the points.

Expert Golf Picks

Matt KucharMatt Kuchar – Kuchar is about as close to a sure thing as you can get. He makes cuts and is a favorite to win in each PGA Tournament he enters. He will be a high cost at any site you play at, but if one of your fantasy golf strategies is to find guys that make cuts…Kuchar is your guy!

Bubba WatsonBubba Watson – We left Watson off our 2014 US Open Fantasy Golf Picks because we didn’t think he was a good fit for Pinehurst (and we were right, he missed the cut). Nevertheless, Watson is playing great this year and has a good history at The Open Championship. Look for him to again contend at Hoylake and be a great pick for your lineup.

Tiger WoodsTiger Woods – Do we think Tiger will win the 2014 British Open? NO! However, this is Tiger Woods, and you can never not count him out as a favorite in a PGA Tour major. Only 4 months removed from back surgery, Tiger was the early odds favorite to win…but he is usually a favorite to win every tourney he plays. He should be a good source of fantasy points…but proceed with caution!

Sergio GarciaSergio Garcia – I think most people hope that Sergio wins a major before his career is over, and if there is one that he plays the best at it is The Open Championship. He has come close numerous times and in ’06 at Hoylake finished 5th. Garcia is one of those sneaky golfers that gets forgotten about when listing top players in the world given that he is currently ranked 8th. Will Sergio finally win? He has a good shot as any in 2014.
