2016 Masters Sleepers and Longshots

2016 Masters SleepersThe Masters Tournament, the most popular golf tournament of the year and even though the 2016 PGA Tour season has been going on since last fall the 2016 Masters is when the casual fans wake up from their slumber and start to really pay attention to golf.

So why do you need Sleeper Picks for the 2016 Masters?

If you are entering some huge fantasy golf contests, you need some low cost players that you can round out your lineup with if you try to take 1 or 2 of the 2016 Masters Fantasy Picks.

Huge Fantasy Golf Contest

At any of the Daily Fantasy Golf sites players like Rory, Spieth or Bubba will be costly so finding low cost players that will make the cut and score you points throughout the weekend are what we want from our Masters Sleepers.

When looking for Sleepers and Longshots for the Masters you should keep in mind some of these Fantasy Golf Strategies:

  • The 2016 Masters is a Smaller Field – The Typical PGA tournament has about 150 golfers. The field for the Masters is usually around 100 golfers with 50 of those being the World’s Top Ranked Golfers. For that reason, sleepers in the field are still golfers that have won on tour or have the ability to win a given tournament.
  • LOOK AT PLAYERS THAT PLAY AUGUSTA WELL – For some, just being invited to the Masters their first time and soaking up the atmosphere is winning enough. Some players just can’t master Augusta whereas some just play well every time out there even if they don’t win.

Our list of 2016 Masters Tournament Sleeper Picks are players that have the odds of winning set at 50-1 or higher at most betting sites. The odds can change as the tournament gets closer depending on how players play in the 2 weeks prior to the Masters but these are the picks that we think are both a lower cost for the THIS HUGE CONTEST but still have a legit shot of playing well throughout the weekend.

2016 Masters Sleeper Picks

DraftKings UK Sign UpDanny WillettDanny Willett (60-1 odds) – I’m hoping that Willet stays in Europe until it’s time to hit Augusta to keep a lot of people from knowing about him. Willett has been a monster on the European Tour and occasionally the stats guys in the fantasy golf department undervalue players that aren’t regulars on the PGA Tour. He has been priced at $8000, and is a solid pick who finished in 38th last year at Augusta and is on a roll in 2016.

Emiliano Grillo Emiliano Grillo (150-1 odds) – OK, so I don’t like first timers at Augusta and I loved Grillo as a season long pick on the PGA Tour and even though he’s been a bit disappointing lately, he has been solid on the European Tour. He has been priced at $6700 for your salary cap and you may want to take a flier especially if he’s playing well leading up to the Masters.

Kevin NaKevin Na (125-1 odds) – Na was on fire to begin the 2016 PGA Tour season and then cooled off. He has been OK lately and has always been a player that makes a lot of cuts. In the last 3 Masters Tournaments Na has finished 12th, 59th and 12th. He is priced at $6900 for this FREE Fantasy Golf Contest and is a nice player to use if you are looking at a guy that should make the cut and has the potential to contend.

Graeme McDowell Graeme McDowell (125-1 odds) – This is a bit of a boom or bust pick! McDowell is having an up and down year with a win and a couple of Top 10 finishes…and a few bad events too. His Augusta history is the same; he has a bunch of missed cuts thrown in with a couple of Top 20’s and some other decent finishes. Look to see how he plays in the couple events before the 2016 Masters. He’s listed under $7000 ($6800 to be exact) and a great value pick as a Sleeper for the Masters.

Bill HaasBill Haas (100-1 odds) – I’ve seen odds for the 2016 Masters for Bill Haas range from 80-1 to 150-1. Here are his last 5 Masters Tournament Finishes: 2015 -12th, ’14 & ’13 -20th, ’12 – 37th, ’11- 42nd. He is priced at $7500 and you want lower priced guys that make cuts. Haas knows Augusta and plays well there, he is ranked in the Top 40 in the world – He’s a great low cost Fantasy Sleeper Pick for The Masters.

2016 Masters Longshot Picks

Originally these were going to be regular Sleeper Picks but they deserve their own category. One you can look at seriously, the other you should only look at if you have a strong set of Brass Ones!

Smylie KaufmanSmylie Kaufman (300-1 odds) – Only because odds makers having him listed as a longshot did I put him in this category. He is a newbie at Augusta which is his negative but he has played some good golf this season and already has a win in his rookie season. Will he win the 2016 Masters…Probably not, could he make the cut – there is a good chance of it if he’s playing well leading up to the tournament. Fantasy Golf Salary Cap Price $6000

Davis Love IIIDavis Love III (550-1 odds) – You want a true longshot? How about resurrecting Davis Love III? I can write pages on why you shouldn’t put him into your fantasy golf lineup – so here are a few points to consider on the plus side: He’s been making cuts in 2016 which is what you want in a fantasy golfer. Also, in his prime, he was actually pretty good at Augusta and given this may be his final ever appearance he may just gear himself to having a solid 4 rounds of golf to end his legacy there.
