2017 British Open Fantasy Golf Picks - Open Championship

2017 British Open Championship Fantasy Golf Picks

British Open Championship LogoWhen looking at making fantasy golf picks for the Open Championship I like to look for golfers that have experience playing on the European Tour. Most PGA Tour golfers don’t see links courses during the year and then play once at the British Open and for some it’s too much of an adjustment. You will also want to pay attention to the weather predictions as wind and rain will take all predictions and projections and throw them right out the window.

If you are living in the UK and are looking for some added excitement while watching the Open then why not try out either DraftKings or FanDuel for their fantasy golf games. If you are in the UK click the links below to sign up to their dedicated UK Fantasy Sites.

Our Fantasy Picks below can be used for either FanDuel or DraftKings and are golfers that are good bets to play the weekend at Royal Birkdale but will be reasonably priced that you can build fantasy golf lineups using some if not all of the players we’ve listed.

2017 Fantasy Golf Picks for The British Open

Play Fantasy Golf in the UKJon Rahm – Fantasy players watched Rahm yelling and cursing his way to a missed cut at the US Open. He was highly owed and many tore up their Fantasy Golf Millionaire Tickets after Thursday. Don’t worry, he is still one of the best golfers on tour in 2017 and should bounce back to reward fantasy players with a solid week at the Open.

Louis Oosthuizen – Again Oosthuizen went into a major overlooked and it seems like only seasoned fantasy golf players had him in lineups at his undervalued price. We listed him as a fantasy golf favorite and were rewarded with his 23rd place finish. He won the Open Championship in 2010 and given his experience on the European Tour he should once again be in your lineups.

Jason Day – Normally I would have Jason Day as one of the favorites to win the Open Championship but with his mind somewhere else right now he just hasn’t shown in his golf game that he could win this week. He is still a solid fantasy pick but unless his game turns right around from where it is, don’t look for Day to be hoisting the Claret Jug at Royal Birkdale.

Zach Johnson – I love veterans for the Open Championship and Zach Johnson certainly qualifies. He won the Open in 2015 and was already a Masters winner. Zach is the kind of guy that nobody looks at as a favorite to win and yet he’ll sneak up and win. He finished in 51st when he played Royal Birkdale in 2008 so for the right price you should stick him in some lineups.

Phil Mickelson– Phil was originally a favorite of mine for the US Open until he pulled out. Phil has had a solid year on tour and has always played well at the Open Championship. Finished in 19th spot the last time he played Royal Birkdale and finished in 2nd at last year’s Open Championship. Take the veteran lefty and enjoy the fantasy points.

***Note*** Mickelson recently ended his 25 year partnership with his caddie. A change like this could really affect a player even a veteran like Lefty. Just keep that in the back of your mind.

Hideki Matsuyama – I struggled where to slot in Matsuyama this year. He will be a costly pick at FanDuel because of how good he is and although he could easily make this list of Who will Win the Open Championship in 2017, I don’t think he will. Having him in a bunch of lineups is a solid investment regardless because he always is a threat to win and even if he doesn’t, a top 10 finish is expected from him anyway.
