When looking at making my fantasy golf picks for the Open Championship I like to look for golfers that have experience playing on the European Tour. Most PGA Tour golfers don’t see links courses during the year and then play once at the British Open and for some it’s too much of an adjustment with such a little window of time to get ready. Pay close attention to the weather predictions as wind and rain will take all point projections and throw them out the window.
Our picks below can be used for either FanDuel or DraftKings and are golfers that we feel are pretty safe bets to play the weekend at Royal Birkdale.
DFS Picks For The Open

Louis Oosthuizen
Oosthuizen went into the last major overlooked and if you took him you got him at an undervalued price. We listed him as a favorite and were rewarded with his 23rd place finish. He won the Open Championship in 2010 and given his experience on the European Tour he should once again be in your golf lineups.

Jason Day
Normally I would have Jason Day as one of the favorites to win outright but with his mind somewhere else right now he just hasn’t shown me a golf game that he could win with this week. Despite this his potential at low ownership can't be overlooked.

Zach Johnson
I love veterans for links courses and Zach Johnson certainly qualifies. He won the Open in 2015 and was already a Masters winner. Zach is the kind of guy that goes overlooked and yet he’ll sneak up and win from time to time. He finished in 51st when he played Royal Birkdale in 2008 so for the right price you should stick him in some of your lineups.

Phil Mickelson
Phil was originally a favorite of mine for the US Open until he pulled out. Phil has had a solid year on tour and has always played well at the Open. Finished in 19th spot the last time he played at this course and finished in 2nd at last year’s British Open Championship. Take a chance on "Ol Lefty" this year.

Hideki Matsuyama
I struggled where to slot in Matsuyama this year. He will be a costly pick at DFS sites because of how good he is playing and yet I just don’t think he will win. Having him in a bunch of lineups is a solid choice regardless because he always is a threat to win and a top 10 finish is very likely.
